Bowling: 2-4-6 Spare System

The 2-4-6 spare bowling system is a system for more advanced bowlers and is not as popular as the standard 3-6-9 spare bowling system. With this spare system the starting position will stay the same, while the target will change depending on which pins are still standing. Therefore, instead of moving your feet, you adjust your target arrow (aim).

There are two starting positions on the approach used with this system - the strike starting position and the 10-pin starting position. You will also use two aiming targets on the lane, the strike aim and the 10-pin aim, for all the spare combinations. You essentially move your target two, four or six boards to cover any combination of pins. The 2 4 6 spare system can be a little more accurate than the 3 6 9 spare system.

Another reason to use the 2-4-6 spare system instead of the 3-6-9 system is because sometimes you will not be able to move your feet because the ball return is in your way. Also, if you are playing with a lot of players and they are all aiming at the same target and path to the pins, the lane will dry out faster.
